About
With a penchant for primary-coloured Disney characters and popular song lyrics, Slade School alumnus Spiller (1942-2019) created screen prints packed with vibrant energy. Combining the expressionist influence of his former tutor Frank Auerbach with a love of Pop Art and graffiti, his pieces feature love-token scribbles over bold typographic statements or two-dimensional renderings of familiar animated characters. Reflecting Spiller’s upbeat character, the resulting works are the perfect antidote to 21st-century cynicism.
