What is your relationship with Hang-Up Gallery?
I made four prints for, my friend, Johnathan Reiner's show at Hang Up, including the one published by the gallery. I then met Ben and Carla at the private view and we decided to keep working together. This will be the second print I silkscreen for Hang-Up.
In a nutshell, what is your printing process?
To me, it's all about the preparation. Silkscreen printing is a process prone to disaster so by preparing everything as meticulously as possible you eliminate variables that can become a problem during the print run.
Other than the fantastic print you've made for The Art of DMC exhibition, what’s your favourite project you’ve worked on and why?
Possibly the Helen Marten Serpentine show and the works that made up her Turner Prize exhibition. She really pushes what we can do as screen printers and there's a real element of creativity when we engage with her projects. It's always crazy and it's always fun! It also helps that I really like her as an artist and as a person. She does make me mix 300 Pantone colours by hand though!
Who is your favourite superhero?
I'm going to go for the Silver Surfer. He's very cool looking and, you know, travels inter-planetarily faster than the speed of light on a surfboard, but mostly I like his bad-to-good story. I like the dark element.
What is the biggest challenge you have come up against?
Printing for Damien Hirst is always a challenge, mainly because of his stature as an artist and the responsibility and pressure that comes with it. The Mickey and Minnie glitter prints were very challenging in every single aspect of production but when we looked at them finished it was a real 'wow, I can't believe we managed that!' And look at them, they really are something else!
What is the most satisfying part of the printing process?
I like the mixing of inks in preparation. Sometimes you get the colour bang-on the first try and it feels quite good! But by far the most satisfying part is when the last colour reveals the whole of the print and you are happy with it, and especially when you know the artist is going to love it.

And finally, if you could spend 24 hours with one artist, living or historical, who would you want to spend the day with and why?
I would love to spend an all-nighter with Pablo Picasso, Agnes Varda and Miles Davis. A great combination of cultures and personalities. And lots of red wine.
Thank you, Diego, for your time and a huge thank you for the amazing print!
