Urban Elements is a group exhibition featuring some of the world's leading urban artists including Futura, Jose Parla, Matt Small, Banksy, Beejoir, Elbow Toe, Static, Judith Supine and Faile. Showcasing original works and a selection of rare limited edition prints, it's a little taster from our online arm hangupurban.com. Bringing diverse elements of the urban art world together, from the "Godfather of graffiti" Futura -responsible for defining the art form in the early 80s - alongside the ubiquitous modern master Banksy, the show continues our commitment to making leading urban and contemporary artists accessible to both gallery and online visitors alike.

Futura Futura

The living legend of the graffiti movement, illustrator, photographer, sculptor, fashion and graphic designer from New York City, Futura is one of the major players on the international urban art scene. Pioneer of abstract street art, Futura helped define the graffiti movement of the early 1970s by moving it away from lettering and towards a more painterly, abstract style. In the early 1980s he showed at the Fun Gallery, along with Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Richard Hambleton and Kenny Scharf. Today Futura’s work can be found in the collections of the Museo d’Arte Moderna, Bologna, the Musée de Vire in France, and the Museum of the City, New York. Museum exhibitions include New York / New Wave at PS1 (1981), Coming from the Subway at Groninger Museum (1992) and Art in the Streets at Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2011).
