Last week Banksy confirmed the statue that had been erected in Waterloo Place, London, was indeed one of his public works. It shows a marching figure blinded by their own flag, stepping unknowingly off a plinth into empty space. This has been interpreted as a critique of rising nationalism and how blind allegiance to symbols can lead people toward dangerous consequences.
