Jean-Michel Basquiat | Boy and Dog in a Johnnypump (1982)

The Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden will present works by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Banksy together for the first time. This landmark exhibition, titled Basquiat × Banksy will open on 29th September 2024.

The exhibition features two major paintings, Basquiat's Boy and Dog in a Johnnypump (1982) and Banksy's Boy and Dog in Stop and Search (2018), which highlight connections between street art, contemporary art, and popular culture.

This marks the first time either artist's work has been shown at the nation's museum of modern and contemporary art.

The exhibition also includes 20 smaller works by Basquiat (1979–1985) from Larry Warsh's collection, along with the film Downtown 81, starring Basquiat as a struggling artist.
