‘I never thought the swimming pool pictures were at all about mere hedonist pleasure…'

David Hockney
Rare and highly collectable

Water has been an endless source of inspiration for Hockney. Moving to LA in the 60's ignited this focus as he noticed the light on the surfaces of the swimming pools as he came into land at LAX.

Today, I am pleased to present an edition from 1980 that explores this fascination and also his experimentation with printing techniques.

  • Lithographic Water Made of Lines, Crayon and a Blue Wash
  • Lithograph on paper | 1975 / 1980 | Edition of 48 | 74 x 86cm

If this work is of interest, do let me know, and I will be happy to discuss it in greater detail.

‘I never thought the swimming pool pictures were at all about mere hedonist pleasure…They were about the surface of the water, the very thin film, the shimmering two-dimensionality … it’s that surface that fascinates me; and that’s what those paintings are about really.’
