The 2026 auction season has continued to show real confidence at the top end of the contemporary market, with significant results across Sotheby’s and Christie’s.
Last night Christie’s, New York, achieved around $1.1bn across the back-to-back evening sales, with multiple artist records reset. The auction house drama peaked when a Pollock painting sold for $181.2m after a seven-minute bidding battle.
One standout result from last week's Sotheby's evening sale was Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Museum Security (Broadway Meltdown). Selling for $52,717,500, it achieved one of the artist’s top ten auction results of all time.
Results like this reinforce the continued demand for culturally significant, market-defining artists and Basquiat remains one of the clearest examples of that strength.
With this in mind, we currently have King Alphonso available for £40,000, the lowest price on the market. Sold professionally framed with Museum-grade Optium acrylic to preserve the integrity of the artwork, the piece is sold in perfect condition, as it was framed straight from the publishers. The artwork is accompanied by the COA from the Estate and the Pace Edition label on the reverse of the frame.
It is a strong opportunity to acquire a work connected to one of the most important artists of the last 50 years.
