This week's highlight from Hang-Up Curates XI focuses on a beautiful selection of works by Mark Powell.

One of the things I love most about Powell’s practice is his ability to transform unexpected materials into deeply moving portraits, allowing the history of each surface to become part of the story.

In Take the Gamble, Powell has drawn a pair of clasped hands across a full deck of playing cards. There’s something quietly hopeful about the piece... a reminder that meaningful connections often require us to take a leap.

Meanwhile, Each Day Is a New Map To... is drawn on an antique National Geographic map and depicts a thoughtful figure lost in contemplation, inviting us to consider what might lie beyond the horizon.
