Will Christie's hammer a new record for work on paper? ||
A new record to be set at Christie's Auction

Four Cities. One Destination. With auctions taking place in Paris, London, Hong Kong and New York, Christie's has kicked off their 20th/21st Century Art Week in New York strong by achieving $486 million on night one. Seven records were broken, including works by René Magritte, Ed Rusha and Roy Lichtenstein.

Ahead of the 21st Century Evening Sale, 21st November, we look forward to watching the hammer go on Basquiat's Untitled. Rumoured to break his auction record for a work on paper, this large oil stick on paper is estimated to sell between $20,000,000 - $30,000,000.

Christie's New York 21st Century Evening Sale
Thursday 21st November 7pm EST
Estimated $20,000,000 - $30,000,000

Untitled (1982), Oilstick on paper, 161.3 x 111.8cm

The year 1982 is seen as a crucial year in Basquiat's oeuvre. At only 22 years old, it is considered the year he made some of his most important paintings in his short career.

‘Because Basquiat died so young, his body of work remains small, and yet interest in him continues to grow.'
Ana Maria Celis, Head of Department, Post-War and Contemporary Art at Christie's
