Fresh perspectives: see prints and latest works by Patrick Hughes

Opens: 18 May 2023

Meet Patrick Hughes, the British artist renowned for his mind-bending "reverspective" art.

“Taking a cliche and turning it inside out, in my case, putting the cliche of perspective upside down, it’s something that I take joy in; and I think that people often, I am happy to say, do smile when they see my work”

"I like to quote one of Franz Kafka’s aphorisms with Peggy: 'The true way is like a rope stretched a little way above the ground, it seems intended more for tripping over than walking along'" (Patrick Hughes, November 2021)

His board constructions use an ingenious technique, creating the illusion of a flat surface that actually protrudes into space when viewed from a specific angle. Hughes' playful and surreal compositions often feature everyday objects like books and globes, challenging our understanding of reality and perspective.
