David Shrigley: Mainly Multiples, Some Paintings & Other Stuff Too

David Shrigley

18 Nov 2022 – 27 Jan 2023

We are excited to bring together a solo exhibition of over 30 works by Shrigley, including a series of limited-edition prints, colour and monochrome originals, ceramics and lithographic prints.

About the show

A dry sense of humour, bright colours, whimsical characters and ironic captions – who could it be but leading printmaker David Shrigley? The British artist is beloved for his intuitive sense of style, a recognisable balance of loosely drawn animals, figures and objects with witty captions that always evoke a laugh.

This November, we will present a solo exhibition of over 30 works by Shrigley, including a series of limited-edition prints, colour and monochrome originals, ceramics and lithographic prints. Having dealt in his work for nearly a decade, we are excited to bring together this entire collection for the first time ever and host an exhibition of an artist who is very dear to Hang-Up. We want to celebrate Shrigley’s rich and playful style, which often borders on the absurd, as he comments on modern society in his own unique and distinctly unfiltered style.

Artist

David Shrigley

Nominated for the Turner Prize in 2013, Glasgow School of Art alumnus Shrigley also created an elongated thumbs-up for the Fourth Plinth in London's Trafalgar Square in 2016 – in the (possibly satirical) hope of "making the world a better place". His playful drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures are imbued with a deadpan humour that encapsulates the bizarre nuances of modern life. Shrigley never corrects his work, and the resulting scratches and crossings out only add to its appeal.
