Sotheby's London, 'Grappling Hook', September 2019

In 2017, Grappling Hook was showcased at the Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem.

The work is considered to be the most iconic piece to emerge from the hotel intervention in Bethlehem. It was the only signed edition to be offered as part of this project and was also the first time Banksy had made his works for sale to the public since 2013.

From an edition of just 26, Grappling Hook is an incredibly rare sculpture from the controversial artist.

Banksy's Grappling Hook (2017) is a powerful statement on this struggle and was the most iconic piece to emerge from the Walled Off Hotel intervention in Bethlehem. Banksy's described the piece as a "Military grade grappling hook and combination spiritual ornament" (the artist on Instagram, 2017), and compounded the joke by presenting the piece in a hand painted, custom made cardboard box.

In 2019 the sculpture was on show at Ely Cathedral in Cambridge cementing a powerful statement between sculpture and location.

"[the sculpture would] create a particular presence and challenge."
