Artist
Joy Yamusangie
Joy Yamusangie is a London-based visual artist working across illustration, painting, collage, ceramics and film. Their multidisciplinary practice explores themes of trans masculinity, intimacy, Blackness and identity, often rooted in personal memory and imagined narratives. Joy’s compositions are figurative and bold, marked by a limited colour palette and expressive line work. Influenced by artists such as Henri Matisse, Joy’s distinctive visual language is grounded in storytelling, memory and the fluid space between fact and fiction.

Yamusangie always creates a playlist to accompany each series of work. They describe how the music acts as an emotional guide, and how "songs can help translate the feeling of the painting when the artist isn’t present to explain it".
