Part of Warhol’s Details of Renaissance Paintings series from the 1980s, the work reflects his fascination with mass media, art reproduction, and the cultural impact of iconic imagery, a theme he had explored since his Thirty Are Better Than One (1963) reinterpretation of the Mona Lisa.
