Published last year by Heni Editions, Damien Hirst's 'The Empresses' is a new exploration of the butterfly as a symbol of freedom, religion, life and death. The series consists of five laminated giclée prints on aluminium composite, screen printed with glitter, each depicting red and black butterfly wings arranged in a unique kaleidoscope-like pattern. The patterns of the wings appear to transform, capturing the butterflies in moments of directional flight.
