Where It All Began
Talisman holds a special place in Kostas Papakostas’ practice. It has hung in his studio from the very beginning and became the first painting to take shape in what would later develop into his celebrated Becoming series. As the collection evolved over the years, it remained a quiet but constant presence.
For Kostas, Talisman has been both a guide and a witness. It marks a pivotal moment in his process, carrying the raw energy and intention that ultimately shaped the direction of the entire series.
From Canvas to Print
Published by Hang-Up Gallery in collaboration with Jealous Print Studios, Talisman has been reimagined as a fine art print, complete with hand-pulled silkscreen layers that reflect the nuances of the original painting.
Details of the silkscreen printing process at Jealous Print Studio, London
Influenced by nature, the human condition, love, time and impermanence, Kostas Papakostas is a London-based multidisciplinary artist. His process is both physical and visceral–placing his canvases on the floor, he moves around them continuously, intuitively layering brushstrokes and allowing his consciousness to guide him whilst painting. With monochromatic flow inherent to his work, he draws similarities to Chinese abstract calligraphy and Zen asemic writing.
