Banksy Takes to the London Underground to Remind Us to Wear a Mask

14 Jul 2020

Banksy returns to the London Underground in his latest stunt with a piece encouraging everyone to wear a face mask. The elusive artist took to instagram to share a video of the process. In the video, a man, believed to be Banksy, is disguised as a professional TFL cleaner - even equipped with a pressure sprayer! He can be seen ordering passengers away as he gets to work, not disinfecting the train but stencilling rats around the carriage. The work - called 'If You Don't Mask, You Don't Get', features a number of rats wearing face masks or using them as parachutes, sneezing and spraying anti-bacterial gel across the windows and walls of the moving train.

At the end of the video, the words "I get lockdown" appear on the side of a station wall, followed by "but I get up again" on the closing train doors- a play on words on the Chumbawamba hitsong which plays at the end.

Without a doubt a great piece with a crucial message, as many seem to still be divided on the use of face masks. Let's hope this helps. To view available works by Banksy from the comfort and safety of your home click here and of course don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like a catalogue.
