  • Do you offer insurance valuations for Banksy works?
      We offer a full insurance valuation service at the gallery for Banksy works. We will require details of the print including an image, condition and where it was purchased. A Banksy appraisal expert will then evaluate this before issuing the valuation on gallery headed paper.   • Why use Hang-Up to purchase Banksy prints?
    We have specialised in dealing in Banksy prints since 2008 and are currently the largest online dealers operating worldwide. We have a dedicated in house exhibition space exclusively for Banksy works with a vast selection of signed and unsigned editions available. Gallery staff are passionate and knowledgeable and on hand to help you with any questions you may have.

  • Are Banksy editions still considered a good investment?
      This is a question we get asked a lot, and there is no straight answer as it is impossible to predict the future. We can say that his works have risen in price phenomenally over the past decade. In the past three years alone, prices for signed and unsigned prints have more than doubled to 2016. We do not encourage to just purchase for investment, though. Choose a piece that you like and enjoy the artwork. Any financials benefits that come with it should be considered a bonus.

  • What is Pest Control?
    Pest Control is the handling service on behalf of Banksy. Pest Control determine whether Banksy was responsible for making a particular piece of artwork and issue a Certificate Of Authentication (COA) if this is the case. The process is non for profit has been set up to help prevent innocent people from becoming victims of fraud.

  • What is POA?
      POA is an abbreviation for Price on Application. We try to put prices on all of the prints but often the higher and more sought after items will be marked as POA. This is due to the fact that the market can move quickly with prices rising based on auction results, new exhibitions, announcements relevant to the artist, etc. We will also mark some consigned pieces as POA so we can confirm availability before any online order is processed.

  • How do I know that I am buying a genuine limited edition Banksy?
    We will only sell Banksy prints with a COA (Certificate of Authentication) from Pest Control and we recommend whether purchasing from Hang-Up Gallery or elsewhere that you only purchase prints with this paperwork in place.

  • How do I get a Certificate of Authentication (COA) for my Banksy?
    COA's are issued by Pest Control. They can be applied for from the Pictures of Walls website.  If the application is successful you will be contacted and a payment of £50 + VAT will be requested. You will then be issued a certificate of authenticity for your Banksy and it is ready to sell.  Be aware the process is by no means immediate and can take anything from a few days to a few months.

  • I ordered a Banksy but there is no COA?
    We send all Banksy COA's separate to the picture. We do this for security reasons so please do not be alarmed!  Your COA will be sent by tracked mail and is usually with you within a week.

  • How important is the condition of the artwork with Banksy ?
    Condition is very important and should certainly be a key factor when purchasing Banksy works.All Banksy works sold with Hang-Up are condition checked and we are fully transparent with our clients. Only 12 years ago Banksy prints were sold for less than £100 and not all were handled with the care and attention that one would expect today. For some prints this can add to the history as it creates a back story and a signature smudge or a screen over running adds to the individuality of the print. For others it can be problematic and affect value. If there are tears, creases, smudges, handling marks corner damage, restoration damage etc we will flag this up and advise accordingly.   Cheap frames and non archival materials can reap havoc with artworks particularly with mounts staining the artwork. At Hang-Up all the Banksy prints we sell are thoroughly condition checked.

  • Are your Banksy prints sold in mint condition?
     Unless the print has never seen the light of the day and has been stored flat since purchase direct from the publisher (which very few have) we steer away from using the word mint.  We prefer to say there are 'no condition issues' and the print is in 'excellent condition'.

  • Can I have a VAT invoice for artwork purchased on the margin scheme?
    The majority of the Banksy work sold via the gallery is done so on the margin scheme and VAT cannot be isolated and broken out on the invoice even when sold and invoiced within the United Kingdom.   • Can I reserve a Banksy print?
      Banksy prints are extremely sought after and collectable limited edition artworks. As such when new ones become available the market can be competitive often with collectors looking to purchase the same print.  The market can also move extremely fast with prices and availability changing very quickly. If a piece is left on reserve it prevents other collectors from purchasing. For both these reasons it is gallery policy that without special discretion from the director we will not hold Banksy works without a deposit. If you wish therefore to reserve a piece we ask for 20% of the sales price and once we have confirmation of payment  the work will be removed from sale and marked as reserved.  Without a deposit we will not be responsible if the print is no longer available even if you have asked us to reserve it.

  • Do you have original artworks by Banksy?

  • How will you ship the Banksy I am ordering?
    Assuming unframed it will either be sent flat packed or rolled in a bespoke tube. If framed then generally it will be sent in a bespoke crate specific to the artwork and lined with foam.

  • Why do you not disclose the edition number on Banksy prints ?
    In the interest of client confidentiality and to prevent fraud it is gallery policy to only disclose edition numbers for Banksy prints to the final buyer.

  • What are your return and cancellation policies?
      Should you wish to cancel your order before it has been dispatched, please contact the gallery as soon as possible as orders are processed almost immediately. Orders cannot be cancelled after 7 days.  Where goods have been dispatched, it is the buyer’s responsibility to inspect goods verifying quantity specifications and details. Upon receipt of the goods, the purchaser must raise any queries or complaints about the goods within 7 days otherwise; we will deem the purchase and delivery accepted by you. Any returned goods which are not defective or faulty must be returned at your own cost.For more information, please refer to our T&Cs.

  • Do we recycle our packaging?
    Sending out artworks safely and securely requires considerable packaging. We have a specialist team in place to do this but as yet we have found no way around the excess packaging required to do the job properly.  We are of course very aware of the environmental impact and encourage all our clients to reuse or recycle the packaging. Our packing team saves all bubble wrap, foam and cardboard from gallery purchases which may then be re-appropriated to package your orders.

  • Do you ship worldwide? How much does shipping to my country cost?
    Yes, we ship worldwide. Artworks are professionally packed in-house and then shipped by secure courier. Unframed prints are generally sent rolled in bespoke thick and durable tubes. Costs are as follows: UK Tube - Free Europe Tube - £40 Rest of the world Tube - £99. Flat packing is also available, please contact us for a quote. If an artwork is framed it will be shipped in a wooden crate where extra shipping costs will apply and you will be contacted with a quote.

  • How are your artworks packed and shipped?
    Artworks purchased from Hang-Up are packed in house by our expert logistics team. Our team will flat-pack, crate or use our bespoke tubes to pack your artwork so that it can travel safely to its destination. Artworks are always handled with excellent care using cotton gloves to prevent damage and packed using the right materials. Artworks are then shipped with Flight Logistics, a respectable courier which provides specialist services to the art sector. Your artworks are always fully insured and trackable during transit.

  • How is my artwork insured?
      
All artworks are packed by a specialist team and sent using one of secure specialist courier partners. Standard shipping options cover loss and damage to artworks to a maximum of £10 000. Additional shipping insurance is available to purchase at the costs below current of April 2019.

  • How long will it take to receive my order?
    We strive to get orders checked and packed for dispatch as quickly as possible, most are dispatched within 7 to 10 working days from purchase. Please allow 14 working days (UK) and up to 21 days (worldwide) to receive your artwork.

  • I have returned an item/artwork. When will my refund be processed?

  • I've changed my mind about framing can I cancel?
    All framing is outsourced to our framing partners in North London.  Should you wish to cancel an order then assuming work has not already started you will be liable only for the transportation costs to the framing company. If the work is in progress then you you will not be able to amend/cancel the order.

  • My artwork has arrived damaged in transit, what do I do?
      In the unlikely event that your artwork arrives damaged through transit it is essential that the gallery is notified within 48 hours and that detailed images of both the packaging and the artwork are taken paying particular attention to any damage that has been incurred.

  • When will my artwork be shipped?
    The bulk of our orders are prepared weekly by the in house packers each Wednesday with courier collection scheduled each Thursday.  Expedited shipping can be arranged for an additional charge. Please contact the gallery for details.

  • How do you charge VAT?
    The majority of our works are sold using a UK government scheme called the margin scheme. It is applied for all secondary market artworks and the cost of the VAT is included in the sales price. When selling work directly from VAT registered artists or publishers, standard VAT will be charged - currently 20%.   • I live outside of the EU, can I claim back the VAT?
    For works sold under the margin scheme, we do not deduct VAT as this is already included within the cost of the artwork. If the work is not sold under the margin scheme, then VAT can be deducted from your order.    A full explanation of the margin scheme from the UK government website can be found here   For more information on the margin scheme, please refer to our T&Cs.

  • What is the maximum amount in cash that I can pay?
      In accordance with HMRC regulations the gallery cannot and will not accept cash payments of €10 000 or more for items purchased at the gallery.  This include several cash payments for a single transaction totalling €10 000 or more as well as a series of payments and payments on account. Cash payments totalling €10 000 or more which appear to have been broken down into smaller amounts so that they come below the high value payment limit

• Authenticity
  • Do you provide proof of authenticity for all of your artworks?
    Yes, your Hang-Up invoice acts as your proof of purchase and confirmation that the work is genuine. A Pest control certificate of authenticity will be also provided with all Banksy limited edition screen prints.

  • DACS: What is Artists Re-Sale Rights?
      The Artist's Resale Right means that artists could be entitled to a royalty each time their work is resold with the involvement of an auction house, gallery or dealer for €1,000 or more. As of 1 January 2012, the Right in the UK was extended to cover sales of work by deceased artists still in copyright, which means that beneficiaries and heirs can now benefit. In the UK, copyright lasts for the lifetime of the artist plus 70 years after their death, to the end of that calendar year. This is the most significant new right for visual artists and their heirs in recent times, giving them an ongoing stake in the value of the artist's work.   Hang-Up is committed to championing artists rights and ensures the ARR is collected for relevant sales and paid to DACS.

  • DACS: How much is DACS?
      The artist’s royalty depends on the resale price. The higher the sale price of the artwork, the lower the overall royalty rate. The royalty is worked out according to a sliding scale from 4% to 0.25%. Hang-Up is committed to championing artists rights and ensures the ARR is collected for relevant sales and paid to DACS.

  • Who covers the shipping costs?

    We are liable for the artwork once it is in the gallery’s possession but it is the seller’s responsibility to ensure it reaches us in good order.

    We have ten years of pricing data for sale of Banksy works from auctions, galleries and private sales. We follow the market very carefully, it’s our business. We use this information to calculate the current values so can assist with valuations if submitting work with the ‘sell art’ service. It is important to note that works are priced according to their condition. If a work has been confirmed to have irreversible condition issues after being professdionally assessed by restorers, this will be reflected in the resale value.

    It is gallery policy that we are unable to hold works without a deposit.  A 20% deposit will secure the work and full payment is then expected in 7 days. If you are unable to pay within this time frame without notifying the gallery of your circumstances, the deposit will be non-refundable and held as a credit for future purchases.

  • Can you help me locate a product even if it isn't on your site?

  • Do you supply a receipt or/and COA?
    Yes, we do. When an online transaction is complete, you will be shown a receipt on screen with your order reference number. An invoice (showing full payment) will be emailed to you with details of your purchase including shipping and total amounts; this also applies to purchases made at the gallery and/or over the phone. The gallery invoice acts as your proof of purchase and confirmation that the work is genuine.

  • Is all the available work online stored at the gallery?
    Whilst most of the work online is stored at the gallery and our off-site storage unit, not all works are kept on site. We can, however, order artworks into the gallery for viewings from our artists and collectors. Please contact the gallery regarding the work of interest and we will be able to assist you with further information.

  • What happens if my item is damaged?
    Customers must contact us by email within 3 working days of receipt of the damaged goods to be eligible for replacement or refund. All packaging must be retained and photos of the damaged provided when possible. A member of our team will be in touch with instructions on how the product will be returned.

  • What is the new anti-money laundering leglisation
    The government has introduced new anti-money laundering measures which will affect all art dealers, galleries and their clients as of 10th January 2020. This is an EU wide legislation to which the UK will abide irrespective of Brexit. Similar legislation is also expected to be introduced in the US in the near future. 

We will have to take, and be seen to take, all reasonable steps to mitigate the risks of money-laundering occurring in the course of our business, including the risks of being paid with illegally obtained funds.

 As part of these obligations and before the completion of any sale, Hang-Up Pictures Ltd  will be legally obliged to carry out identification and screening checks on all clients buying from our gallery. These checks are broadly similar to those carried out by banks when you open up a bank account and have already been put in place by the major international auction houses.

 For individuals, we will require a copy of a valid photo identity document such as a passport, driving license or national ID card which confirms their full name, date of birth, nationality and permanent residential address. For companies, we will require company details including evidence of incorporation, directors and the ultimate beneficial owners. In a situation where an agent/advisor is acting on behalf of a buyer, we will be required to identify the ultimate buyer in addition to the agent. 

Payments received by the gallery will have to be received from a bank account held in the name of the person or entity named on the invoice. In the event that you wish for a third party to pay for a purchase on your behalf, you will have to seek our prior authorisation to do this and if the information you provide to us doesn’t meet with these new legal requirements, unfortunately we will have to reserve the right to refuse third party payments. 

We ask you to bear with us whilst we carry out these mandatory checks before the completion of a sale of a work of art. Please understand that we are obliged to do this for all our clients, even those with whom we have dealt in the past, but rest assured that we will do our best to make the process as quick and efficient as we possibly can. 

We assure you that the information which you provide to us will be held and processed in accordance with our privacy policy and will remain secure and confidential at all times.

  • Can anyone apply for an Own Art?
    You need to be a UK resident over the age of 18.

  • What happens if I do not collect my Own Art purchase?
    If you have purchased an artwork using Own Art and opted to collect from the gallery the monthly loan repayments will be automatically triggered 7 days after your notification that the artwork is available for collection. It is important to note that we have limited storage space at the gallery and if the artwork is left uncollected for over 28 days then it will be moved to our storage facility and additional charges will be payable.

  • What is Own Art?
    Own Art is an interest-free scheme set up by the Arts Council designed to make it easy and affordable for everyone to buy and collect contemporary art. It enables the buyer to spread the payments over a 10 month period in monthly instalments, and you'll never be paying more than the advertised price.   • When will my first Own Art payment be debited from my account?
    Your first payment will normally be debited from your account around 4 weeks after the date on which you signed the agreement. You will receive a letter confirming the date.

    Unless otherwise agreed for any order over £10 000 we ask for payment to be made via BACS transfer or International wire. Identification may be requested for any card payment. Please do not be offended if this is requested we are obliged to do by our credit card processing company.

  • Who pays bank charges when wiring money to pay an invoice?
      The purchaser is responsible for all bank fees/charges when wiring money from overseas. The artwork will not be shipped unless the invoiced amount has been received in full.

  • Why do i need to provide ID?
      As a term of sale we are obliged by our credit card processing company to (on occasion) request identification including proof of address for any card payment taken.  We do this simply to remain compliant so please do not be offended if this has been requested of you.

  • Can you install the work I have purchased at my house/commercial space?
      Our trained art technicians will come to you and can take care of all aspects of installing your new artwork in your home or commercial space.  Rates   Weekdays £125 + VAT per Hour  £275 + VAT per Half Day  Weekends £150 + VAT Per hour  £300 + VAT per half day

  • Do you offer a framing service?
    Yes, we do. Turnaround time is approximately 2 weeks from its collection. Please note that we only frame artworks purchased from Hang-Up Pictures Ltd.

  • I've changed my mind about framing can I cancel?
    All framing is outsourced to our framing partners in North London.  Should you wish to cancel an order then assuming work has not already started you will be liable only for the transportation costs to the framing company. If the work is in progress then you you will not be able to amend/cancel the order.

• Storage and Uncollected Works
  • How long can I leave an artwork I have purchased at the gallery?
    Any artwork/purchases that are to be collected from the gallery must done so within 14 days of the order being made. Storage limitations at the gallery space prevent us from keeping client’s work for any longer unless agreed prior. A storage charge will be applicable for works left at the gallery for over 14 days.  Please refer to FAQ's for charges

  • What are the storage charges for uncollected works?
      If the gallery have notified you to collect an artwork(s) please contact the gallery within 14 days to arrange a date to do so. Due to space limitations failure to do so will mean that the work(s) may be moved to an external storage facility. Any items moved to the facility will be subject to a £35+ VAT administration/processing charge and a further £27.50+ VAT weekly charge to cover insurance and storage. Payment must be made in full before artworks can be released. This includes consignment artworks that are no longer being sold through the gallery.

  • Do you offer insurance valuations for Banksy works?
      We offer a full insurance valuation service at the gallery for Banksy works. We will require details of the print including an image, condition and where it was purchased. A Banksy appraisal expert will then evaluate this before issuing the valuation on gallery headed paper. The letter will be signed and dated by the Gallery Director and can be used to assist for insurance purposes or simply for your own records. https://hanguppictures.com/banksy/insurance-valuations The cost of this service is £75 + VAT

  • DACS: What is Artists Re-Sale Rights?
      The Artist's Resale Right means that artists could be entitled to a royalty each time their work is resold with the involvement of an auction house, gallery or dealer for €1,000 or more. As of 1 January 2012, the Right in the UK was extended to cover sales of work by deceased artists still in copyright, which means that beneficiaries and heirs can now benefit. In the UK, copyright lasts for the lifetime of the artist plus 70 years after their death, to the end of that calendar year. This is the most significant new right for visual artists and their heirs in recent times, giving them an ongoing stake in the value of the artist's work.   Hang-Up is committed to championing artists rights and ensures the ARR is collected for relevant sales and paid to DACS.

  • DACS: How much is DACS?
      The artist’s royalty depends on the resale price. The higher the sale price of the artwork, the lower the overall royalty rate. The royalty is worked out according to a sliding scale from 4% to 0.25%. Hang-Up is committed to championing artists rights and ensures the ARR is collected for relevant sales and paid to DACS.

  • What is the new anti-money laundering leglisation
    The government has introduced new anti-money laundering measures which will affect all art dealers, galleries and their clients as of 10th January 2020. This is an EU wide legislation to which the UK will abide irrespective of Brexit. Similar legislation is also expected to be introduced in the US in the near future. 

We will have to take, and be seen to take, all reasonable steps to mitigate the risks of money-laundering occurring in the course of our business, including the risks of being paid with illegally obtained funds.

 As part of these obligations and before the completion of any sale, Hang-Up Pictures Ltd  will be legally obliged to carry out identification and screening checks on all clients buying from our gallery. These checks are broadly similar to those carried out by banks when you open up a bank account and have already been put in place by the major international auction houses.

 For individuals, we will require a copy of a valid photo identity document such as a passport, driving license or national ID card which confirms their full name, date of birth, nationality and permanent residential address. For companies, we will require company details including evidence of incorporation, directors and the ultimate beneficial owners. In a situation where an agent/advisor is acting on behalf of a buyer, we will be required to identify the ultimate buyer in addition to the agent. 

Payments received by the gallery will have to be received from a bank account held in the name of the person or entity named on the invoice. In the event that you wish for a third party to pay for a purchase on your behalf, you will have to seek our prior authorisation to do this and if the information you provide to us doesn’t meet with these new legal requirements, unfortunately we will have to reserve the right to refuse third party payments.

  • Why has the quoted price changed?
    Certain editions are sold 'staggered' which means that as the edition sells the price will rise in increments. If we are selling on behalf of a publisher it is our contractual obligation to match the price. Whilst we strive to ensure pricing is correct if the publishers price has recently changed and not yet been updated on the website you will be notified and have the option to continue with the sale or not.
