The bright colours used in Warhol's Camouflage (F. & S. II. 409) subverts the original intention of camouflage to disguise and blend in. Warhol completed his Camouflage portfolio with his assistant Jay Shriver shortly before passing away in 1987. This series departs from Warhol's earlier works by adopting an abstract, unconventional subject while preserving his signature style. Camouflage is often seen as his critique of the superficiality of pop culture, a theme evident in earlier portfolios like Marilyn.
