Fresh out of art school, Bridget Riley became interested in the pointillist artist George Seurat and his technique of juxtaposing small dots of pure colour to create vibrant and dynamic surfaces. The Measure for Measure painting series was started in 2016 (examples from the series were exhibited at Galerie Max Hetzler, Paris, 2017 and David Zwirner, London, 2021) and it is proof that the French artist remained a crucial figure for Riley from the onset and throughout her whole career, finding new inspiration from his art as well as her own early works.
