A roots reggae tune will almost always concern itself with the existential trials and tribulations of the ghetto sufferer. Rastafarianism, Haile Selassie as a living deity, slavery in Babylon and repatriation to Africa all inform roots reggae’s lyrical content while the beat is often in the steppers style, so eminently danceable.
