I’ve been going to gigs and clubs since I was fifteen years old. I’ve lazed in the bass bins at Ministry of Sound and moshed to Mudhoney.

But in my experience, there’s nothing to compare with the overwhelming sound system turbulence of a My Bloody Valentine gig. Over the years, when playing live, the band have developed the middle section of their song You Made Me Realise into a 20 minute one-note, mind-melting workout that’s been clocked at 130 decibels – about the same volume as standing by a 747 jet engine on take off. I have literally seen plaster falling off the walls as they played.
