Banksy Dismaland Closes Its Doors

The anonymous artist requested that all who attended wore masks so that he could be present on the evening. With tickets selling out as soon as they were released, attendance at the closing night was the most sought after event in the art worlds calendar. The press, who only found out about Banksys secret project two days before it opened, have flooded to the park throughout the month. With the BBC, The Guardian and Rolling Stones Magazine being just a handful of those who have been covering every progression of the show.

The park maximum of 4,500 was reached each day meaning over the course of the show 166,500 people experienced the bemusement of Banksys genius. With the Alexander McQueen show bringing in 3,500 per day and 3907 for the Tates Henri Matisse exhibition, their most popular to date, Banksy has really proven himself as a one of the biggest artists of our day.

In true Banksy style he treated his park goers to a number of surprises. With performances from De La Soul, which saw Blur's Damon Albarn join them on stage, as well as Kate Tempest and Pussy Riot. Hang Up artists the Connor Brothers collaborated with Pussy Riot to create an anarchic riot scene for the night. The artist duo spent the week in the run up rehearsing and recording at The Laundry in Hackney, to perfect the iconic atmosphere of the political punk group.

KennardPhillipps billboard installation of David Cameron proved one of the most popular images of the show. They have since released a scaled down, hand crafted limited edition based on the work 'Shove', which is already close to selling out.

Although Dismaland may have now left Weston Super Mare, Banksy has since revealed that all structures from the park will be used to make shelters for the Refugees at Calais.
