The imagery for this piece is taken from a 1981 video recording of the attempted assassination of US President Ronald Regan, in which three secret service agents were injured. In Banksy's piece, the perpetrator John Hinkley has been caught painting a wall rather than shooting a gun, and the man on the right of the piece carries a police radio rather than a machine gun. The title of the piece was taken from a song by The Clash, and the image can be read as a comment on the disproportionate severity of punishments doled out to street artists.

The most famously anonymous artist in the world, Banksy made the front pages when he auto-shredded Girl With Balloon during a 2018 Sotheby's auction. Known for his thought-provoking social commentary, Banksy's varied works include the Walled Off Hotel (with its view of the West Bank barrier), cover art for Blur's Think Tank album, and a gigantic graffiti piece about Brexit, in the UK port of Dover.
