Celebrating the beauty, sexuality and power of Black women through collage, photography and film, Thomas’s bold works reshape ideas of the artist’s muse. A graduate of the Pratt Institute and Yale School of Art, her impactful collages harnessing rhinestone and enamel have made her one of America’s most in-demand contemporary artists: Her work Raquel Reclining Wearing Purple Jumpsuit sold for over $1.8 million at Christie’s in 2021 (more than three times its high estimate).
Did you know?
Thomas’s first muse was her mother, Sandra Bush, a model set for super-stardom in the 1970s, who fell on hard times.
