Exhibition Review | Mickalene Thomas 'All about Love'

On Tuesday 11th Feb, Hayward Gallery in London opened the much-awaited solo show 'All About Love' by American artist Mickalene Thomas.

'All About Love' presents two decades of work - The vibrant, large-scale portraits of Black women celebrate love and representation through her innovative use of collages, and vivid patterns adorned with rhinestones. Running till 5th May 2025, this show is set to be a career highlight for Thomas and not to be missed.

This is the best exhibition I've seen at the @Hayward.Gallery.

I've only ever seen Thomas's work against a white cubed-like background, but here the setting is in sumptuous purples and browns, which don't just enrich the paintings, but bring them alive with sensual intimacy.
