This week saw the reveal of Banksy's latest project, which is by far his biggest yet... In the eery, abandoned lido of Weston Super Mare, the artist's home town, a mysterious Disneyland-esque theme park has been in construction for the past month. However this is no dreamland, Banksy has created his own apocalyptic style Dismaland where he invites us to come and 'eat cold chips to the sound of crying children.'
Welcome to Dismaland...
The Hang-Up team were lucky enough to head down to Dismaland for the private view last night. There were pirate DJs, African drums, zombie Storm Troopers and many more delinquent details...
Not your average bumper cars
“It’s not a swipe at Disney. I banned any imagery of Mickey Mouse from the site. It’s a showcase for the best line-up of artists I could imagine, apart from the two who turned me down.”

The park is filled with creepy and controversial creations by around fifty artists, hand picked by Banksy, including kennardphillipps, Damien Hirst, Jenny Holzer, David Shrigley, Polly Morgan, Josh Keyes and James Cauty. There are also ten new works by Banksy himself.
In true Banksy style the project has been kept under wraps up until this week, concealing the venue as the film set for the 'Grey Fox' movie. Even the exhibition staff believed they were being hired as extras in the film!

“It’s ambitious, but it’s also crap. I think there’s something very poetic and British about all that.”

Dismaland is now open to the public from August 22 through September 27th. There’s also a series of events including a show by Pussy Riot and Massive Attack on September 25th. We highly recommend you do not miss your chance to visit the dark depths of Dismaland...
