The exhibition marks the debut of Infinity Mirrored Room – Beauty Described by a Spherical Heart, which envelops visitors inside a pulsating, light-filled, hexagonal space.
This work explores the interplay between two key elements in Kusama’s practice: spheres and reflective space. It builds on the concept of the reflected gaze from the mid-1960s and connects to her iconic works Infinity Mirrored Room – Love Forever and Narcissus Garden from 1966.
Yayoi Kusama's Death of Nerves was one of two giant textile sculptures dominating the exhibition space.
This installation features multicolored, stuffed fabric elements resembling tendrils, vines, or a nervous system, suspended throughout Victoria Miro’s architectural void. Cascading like a waterfall from the upper gallery, it reaches the ground 15 meters below. Kusama’s signature polka dots cover the flowing forms, which, despite its macabre title, celebrate regeneration and the interconnectedness of life and death.
The other of these textile installations is The Moment of Regeneration where Kusama creates a primordial forest that cites the cycles of growth and decay and the optimism of growth and renewal.
The exhibition also features new paintings from Kusama’s ongoing series Every Day I Pray for Love (2021-present). They evoke both microscopic and macroscopic worlds, filled with imagery like eyes, profile faces, and the dots and nets synonymous with Kusama’s style, blending improvisation with fluid, instinctual forms.
