1. He is a contemporary narrative painter rooted in tradition
Alex Russell Flint works in oil paint and charcoal, creating representational narrative pieces that feel grounded in classical technique while exploring distinctly modern moods, themes and subjects.
2. He paints stillness with an edge
His scenes first appear calm, composed, almost serene, yet they carry a subtle tension. A feeling as if something unresolved is lingering beneath the surface.
Many of his paintings are set in and around L’Ancienne École, his home and studio in central France.
4. His work extends beyond the gallery
Alongside exhibitions in London, Ireland and the United States, his work has appeared on the cover of The Secret History by author Donna Tartt and in publications including World of Interiors and Financial Times HTSI.
5. He comes from a strong artistic lineage
As the great-grandson of Sir William Russell Flint, he builds on a legacy of British figurative painting, while carving out a distinct voice of his own.
