On 11 June 2026, David Hockney passed away at the age of 88. Hailed as one of the most innovative and influential artists of all time, he will be remembered as a pioneer in his field.

In 2027, to coincide with, what would have been, David Hockney’s 90th birthday, Tate Modern will host a multimedia installation in the Turbine Hall in the summer and Tate Britain will open a career-spanning exhibition in the autumn.

Leading the sale was Jean-Michel Basquiat’s seven-foot-tall 1983 painting Museum Security (Broadway Meltdown), tagged at in excess of $45 million. It last came to market in 2013, at Christie’s London, where an unnamed buyer snagged it for $14.6 million. ARTnews previously reported that French art dealer John Sayegh-Belchatowski was the buyer; Sotheby’s describes it only as coming from “a distinguished collection.” After very thin bidding in the room, it hammered at $45.3 million, selling for $52.7 million with the house’s fees. That makes it the fifth-most expensive Basquiat ever to sell at public auction.

The Summer Exhibition at the RA is a highlight in the calendar. Thousands of artist's submit their artwork, from amateurs to professionals, and are selected by a panel to be shown.

Since its inception in 1769, it's the world's longest-running annual open-submission art exhibition and has been held every single year without interruption.

The doors are open for the latest edition of Hang-Up Curates, a focused presentation of limited edition prints and original works by artists continuing to shape the contemporary market.

Bringing together established names and current standouts, the exhibition includes works by Tracey Emin, Banksy, Kostas Papakostas and Andy Warhol.

A new sculpture spotted on the streets of London has now been confirmed to be the work of Banksy via his Instagram page. The piece, depicting a suited figure mid-march and holding a flag aloft, appeared overnight in central London's Waterloo Place.

Frida Kahlo is an internationally renowned artist who has become a phenomenon. Frida: The Making of an Icon showcasesover 30 of her most iconic works that introduce her 'many-selves' as well as treasured jewellery, memorabilia, and garments. She was a fearless, revolutionary artist who inspired artists, communities and generations for years to come. This exhibition celebrates her life, work and transformation into a global brand.

It goes without saying that there have been some epic results this quarter, along with a few white-glove sales that hit the headlines.

Single-owner collections have proved to be a highlight during this season. One standout sale has set a new UK record as the most expensive sold in the UK.
